Artificial Intelligence in Bangladeshi Context; Benefits and Limitations of Using Artificial Intelligence in context of Bangladesh
Background
The term artificial intelligence was coined in the mid-1950s by McCarthy while conducting a research at the Carnegie Mellon University (https://www.units.miamioh.edu). Copeland, J. B. (2018, August 17) defines artificial intelligence as a computer-controlled robot to perform tasks usually related with the human beings. Mariam-Webster dictionary defines artificial intelligence as a machine with some capabilities of imitating human behaviour. Artificial intelligence is now growing with modern technologies. The future of artificial intelligence is very clear-cut and company like Microsoft, Dell, Apple and others as well have already inserted this system in their products (Shermarc, 2014). This system is now working on business, education, entertainment and other sectors.
Artificial Intelligence in Bangladesh
The history of artificial intelligence in Bangladesh is not very old rather it has come to light in the recent decade. According to Sadi, M. (2017), AI has potential market in Bangladesh. AI can be very useful for many sectors like education, business, and other sectors as well. Ahsan, S. (2017) said that “At eGeneration, we are making a natural language processor (NLP) for Bangla that will integrate machine learning and AI.” He further added that eGeneration Ltd is consulting with Bangladeshi expatriates who are working in the Silicon Valley in other IT companies in North America to find cost effective and implementable AI based solutions in Dhaka. Taus, N.S. a young Bangladeshi engineer from the Deep Learning division of world-renowned NVIDIA has already been working with eGeneration Ltd to figure out the possible solutions designed with AI for Dhaka (Dhaka Tribune, 2017).
Benefits and Limitations of AI in Bangladesh
There are the benefits and limitations of AI in Bangladeshi context in different sectors like medical diagnosis, stock trading, robot control, law scientific discovery and toys (Chowdhury, H.M. November 13, 2017). Benefits of artificial intelligence in business sector of Bangladesh are:
1. Human resources and hiring processes: AI technology can be substitute of human resource in business. As a result, hiring manpower will be reduced.
2. Source to pay operation: AI is a solid source to do the operations of business.
3. Customer Service: Robots with AI technology can do the task of people to serve customers.
Artificial intelligence is used in medical science as well in Bangladesh. For example, in detecting disease, it is working like doctor. AI technologies are used in other sectors like education and law.
Limitations of Artificial Intelligence in Bangladesh
There are many limitations of AI in Bangladesh. These limitations are: 1. Lack of Affordances- As Bangladesh is a developing country, there is scarcity of wealth to run projects in AI technology. Consequently, it is becoming problematic to adapt AI across the country.
2. Illiteracy- Lack of proper education is considered as obstacle in Bangladesh to flourish the concept of AI across the country.
3. Untrained ManPower: Inadequate training is one of the reasons for not improving the field AI in business, medical, education and other sectors.
Conclusion
Artificial intelligence is going to be the next substitute of human beings after the industrial revolution. Bangladesh has lots of opportunities in it to grow with modern technologies and to gain a status of economic power. AI can lead many sectors of Bangladesh to compete with the modern world.
